Introduction
Witnessed significant activity by the Free Media Association,The year 2025 manifested in the implementation of a series of activities and events aimed at developing institutional performance and enhancing the quality e toabl the Association was During this year.
Efficiency of media work and improve its operational reality with media by intensifying communication institutions and organizing high-quality events that contributed to raising professional standards and addressing the most prominent challenges .facing .the media sector.

15th June 2025 was specifically the date when The 7th Conference of the Free Media Association was held in the city of Qamishlo and which resulted in the election of the two colleagues Idris Hanan and Avin Ibrahim as a joint presidency of the Association along with the election of the General Council.
The Association also strengthened its presence field in the same year moving beyond traditional frameworks and intensifying direct communication media institution and its journalists members the thing that positively impacted the development of this panoramic media landscape as the Association’s most prominent achievements and activities in 2025.
Establishing a unit for the protection and safety of journalists

On 13th March 2025 during a press conference held in the Association’s headquarter in Qamishlo city and in the presence of dozens of journalists and agencies representatives of media numbers, The Free Media Association announced the establishing of a unit of Security Consulting and Risk Management aiming at protecting journalists and ensuring their safety while performing their media duties and providing them with security support and advice throughout Syria.
Remembering the martyred journalists
- 28th August 2025: Participating in the commemoration ceremony of the martyrdom of Hero baha uddin , Gulistan Tara Najmudin Faisal and Arkish Sarhad in the city of Qamishlo.
- 22nd September 2025: Orgnising the Third Anniversary commemoration of the martyrdom journalist Sayed Afran in the Reading Garden in Qamishlo City.
- 13th October 2025: Remembring the martyers Delishan Ibish and Hoger Mohammed in Qamishlo and Kobani cities.
- 14th October 2025: Orgnising the Sixth Anniversary commemoration of the martyrs Saad Al Ahmad , Mohammed Resho , Wadad Ardemji and Dylan Ulmaz in the Sarukhan Graveyard in Qamishlo City.
- 26th November 2025: Visiting te family of the martyr Essam Abdullah on the coinciding of the third anniversary of his martyrdom in Driik City.
- 19th December 2025: the Anniversary of December Martyrs . The martyrs of Truth; Nazim Dashtan, Jihan Belkin and Rizgar Adanmish in Mohammed Sheikho Hall in Qamishlo and Kobani cities.
Activities and Events
During 2025 The Free Media Association carried out a wide range of activities and visits including the following:
- 18th February 2025: Organizing a sit-in in front of the UN headquarter in Qamishlo with the participation of Woman Media Association and the Human Rights Orgnisation in Syria in a the protest against Turkish occupation targeting of journalists intervention and protection at Tishrin Dam.
- 3rd May 2o25: Organizing The World Press Freedom Day.

- 22nd April 2025: Organising a ceremony on martyr Mazloum Pakok’s Toil Ceremony Awards on the occasion of the 127th co memory of the Kurdish Press. Awards were given to Ronahi TV , Ronahi Newspaper. Rojava TV, Alyoum TV and Nefel Media Production and Distribution Company.The families of the two martyrs Essam Abdullah and Mazlum Bakook also granted Toil Rewards to Hawar Agency for News , the manager of The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights Mr. Rami Abdel Rahman , The Media Centre of the Syrian Democratic Forces, The Frat News Agency and the Women Channel TV.
- 22nd July 2025 : Launching a petition campaign under the slogan: “Let’s together reject the hate speech and Media incitement”.
- 5th August 2025 : A visit of a delegation of a Experts France affiliated with the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Association’s office in Qamishlo.
- 21st August 2025 : A delegation including Kemal Al Bekour , the official manager of the Syrian Future Launch and Art and Culture commission visited the Association Office of Al Jazira Province.
- 27th August 2025 : Participation of the members of the General Council in the Democratic Peoples Session in the city of Raqqa in order to approve Media Law.
- 28th August 2025 : Attending a dialogue session organized by Aso News Network and Shar Organization for development in the city of Hasaheh.
- 28th August 2025: Region with the EuphratesOrganizing a lecture in Kobani in cooperation about resisting hate speech.
- 31st Augest 2025 : Participating in a dialogue session organized by the Home Association of forced displacement victims in Qamishlo .
- 1st September 2025 : Joining a discussion forum organized by Shawishka Association for Women about the dangers of drugs.
- 8th September 2025 : attending the Mardoutho’s Fifth Annual Festival .
- 20th October2025 : Members of the Free Media Association were given shopping vouchers of 10 US dollars to buy books in the Herkol International Book Fair at the Martyrs Exhibition in Qamishlo.
- 27th October2025: A delegation from the Association participated in the work of the organizations of Media Law preparing executive charter of Number 8 2025 .
- 2nd November 2025: Organising a joint press conference with Human Rights Organization in Syria on the occasion of the International Day of End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists.
- 4th November 2025: A joint delegation of the Association and the Human Rights Organistion in Syria visited the UN Office in Qamishlo and handed them a message addressed to the General Secretary of the United Nations Antonio Guterrish along with a statics’ on crimes committed against journalists during the year 2025 in both Arabic and English.
- 23rd November 2025 : Organizing a lecture with participation of Women Media Association about the laws protecting women on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
- 6th December 2025 : The participation of the Co- Chair Avin Ibrahim in the closing session for ” Together for Civil Peace and Social Cohesion ” in Damascus .
- 16th December 2025 : Parrticipating in a dialogue session entitled ” Transtional Justice and Comprehensive Constition ” in Qamishlo.
Institution Visits and Media Coordination:
The Association visited several media and intellectual institutions in northern and eastern Syria including these radio centres : Tigris, Voice of Life, Urkish, Suryo, Boyer, Roj Ava, Arta, Khabour and Star.
It also visited the following Channels:
Alyaum TV, Ronahi TV, News TV and Roj Ava TV. It visited these news agencies and centers too, Ronahi news paper, Nefel Media Production, Hawar, Research Centre, Woman Al Afak Magazine Centre, Woman Rights Protection Centre, ANF Agency Center, Martyer Herkol Printing Press, Women`s News Agency, The Media Department Office in Amouda, Art Center of Welat.
The Association received delegations from Self Administration Institutions, civil society organizations , Media Associations and media figures within the framework of coordination and development of media the most prominent of these were:
The Media Department of the Autonomous , The Administration Media Center of the Internal Security Forces, the Syrian Photographers Association, the Woman Rose Organization for Support and Empowerment, the official manager of the Syrian Future for Art and Culture Launch, Kemal Al Bekour in the Jazira Canton, a delegation from ‘ Ishkal ” the American Production Company, a delegation from Women Association , tin he Executive Council in Al Jazira Canton and Halim Youssef, the Kurdish writer and novelist.
The Free Media Association took the initiative to play its role by sending a number of congratulatory messages and telegrams as doing congratulatory visits to a number of media institutions on the occasion of their establishing anniversary such as Ronahi TV and Radio , Urkish, Roj News Agency, Today Channel, Radio Star and Women Media Center Fifth anniversary and praising their work. Our Association shed light on the current events and playing a professional role in conveying the truth with objectivity and responsibility.

- 2nd May 2025 : Announcing a statement regarding the loss of contact with the journalist Akram Saleh and the photographer Judy Haj Ali While they were covering the events of Ashrafiah Sehnaya in Damascus countryside.

Organizational meetings
The Free Media Association held a series of regular and periodic meetings which included :
- General Council meetings every three months.
- Administratative board meetings monthly. On basis with a high attendance rate from members.
Association Activities During 2025
In order to promote professional media and defend freedom the Association implemented a range of organizational, awareness of human rights and training through its specialized committees during 2025.
Organizational and Coordination Activities
- A meeting was held for male and female journalists to discuss the period following the fall of the Baath regime and its effects
- Participating in the campaignHashtagTo support our displaced people in the Afrin and Shahba regions
- Holding regular meetings with journalists and media organizations in Alippo, Reqqa, kobani and the Firat Region, and comprehensive meeting for journalists of the Firat Organizing extensive Canton with the participation of administration represntatives.
- Holding regular weeklymeetings within the Association.
Training and capacity building
- Conducting specialized training in news production, reporting and radio training in staff in partnership with media organizations.
- Organising courses on woman’s rights in accordance with local and international laws.
- Implementing practical training within media institutions .
- Working on preparing a training plan for the year 2026 in coordination with ARIJ Academy for Investigative Journalism.
Awareness and media work
- Organizing lectures and Seminars on hate speech and the role of media and the media war on northern and eastern Syria.
- Participating in dialogue programs and seminars inside and outside the region to explain the objectives of the campaigns.
- Enhancing the role of media and the ethical media message.
- Expanding the network of contacts with female journalists and feminist media organizations.
- preparing and publishing media materials specializing in women’s issues.
- Attempts to open a representative office of the Union in Sweida are ongoing.
The Human Rights And Follow Up Committe
- Documenting violations and preparing human rights reports against journalists in conflict zones monthly.
- Preparing and submitting a comprehensive human rights file and official letters to the United Nations Offices in Qamishlo.
- Documenting the crimes and violations committed by the Turkish occupation and de .facto authorities against journalists in Syria
- Preparing legal files supported by evidence and sending them to humanitarian and legal organizations and others to specialized in the protection of journalists accepted to be presented to the international courts.
- As part of the work within the documents and Evidence of the Truths Finding Committee, the Association collected evidences regarding the crimes committed by Turkey and its testimonies against the journalists and the Association submitted them to the Human Rights in Syria to hand them to competent international courts.
- The Association continues following the remarkable important issues and give legal and vocational advice to the journalists.

This panoramic report reflects the size of efforts made by the Free Media Association during 2025, defending press freedom , protecting journalists, promoting vocational values and empowering a responsible media that serves truth and society.
